Racquet Sports at Chateau Golf & Country Club

Chateau Golf and Country Club offers one of the largest tennis facilities in the Greater New Orleans Area. The tennis facility is complete with seven har-tru clay courts and two hard courts. The clay courts are maintained in excellent condition through a rigorous daily routines which includes watering and brushing the courts. Other amenities in the tennis facilities include Pro Shop, Men and Ladies showers and dressing areas, ball machine, and a second floor viewing deck overlooking the courts. As a member you can participate in some of the many leagues Chateau hosts, such as Crescent City, USTA, JCCA, and many others. Clinics and lessons are also offered on a private and semi-private basis.

Pro Shop
Our pro-shop is an exclusive Head Racquet Sports provider. We carry all the latest frames the top pros are using, from Novak Djokovic to Maria Sharapova. We also have all the grips and strings you will need to customize your racquet to your specifications.
Our hours of operation are: Tues-Sun: 7:30 AM - 10:00 PM

MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Lee MacAlester
- Director of Tennis

  Lee is a graduate from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS, where he was a four-year Academic All-American. He achieved tennis rankings in the top 50 in singles and top 20 in doubles. After college, Lee has continued to play competitively and has won State, Sectional, and National titles in the USTA. He has been a full-time teaching professional since 1999 and has seen many of his juniors advance to play college tennis. Also, Lee's specialty has been working the adult USTA teams, in which he promotes an attacking game that applies maximum pressure. Several of his players have gone on to win National titles.
  
  Lee has been the Director of Tennis here at Chateau Golf & Country Club since 2010. It took a couple years but the courts now have never been busier. He has reinvigorated our tennis scene and amassed a great team of tennis professionals. If you ever need to reach Lee, just walk out to Court 5 -- he's always there!
Hossam Meligy
- Hossam is from Cairo, Egypt and moved to New Orleans in 2010 to attend UNO. He was a member of the Egyptian National team for 4 years. He played 3 years for the University of New Orleans leading the school in his senior year as a captain to reach the finals of the Southland Conference for the first time in school history. He was ranked #4 in the nation in doubles junior year and received Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American honors in 2012. He was also named Louisiana Freshman of the year in 2011, All- Louisiana second team years 2011/2013 and All-American Academics 3 consecutive years. After graduating, Hossam was a graduate assistant coach at UNO assisting both Men’s and Women’s teams for two seasons and helped both teams reach conference semi finals.
  
  Hossam is also the Varsity Head Coach for Isidore Newman High School. He led the Boy’s team to win State in 2017 and to be State Runner-ups in 2021. He led the Girl’s team to win State in 2019,2021,& 2022 and to be State Runner-ups in 2017 & 2018. Hossam has been working at Chateau Golf and Country Club since 2015, where he has worked with top ranked juniors in the State. Hossam is PTR & USPTA certified.
Craig Harrington
- Craig was a top junior in Louisiana and played tennis at Archbishop Rummel High School. Despite several scholarship offers, Craig decided he wanted to get right into what he does best and started his tennis career. He has been a teaching pro in the New Orleans area for over 15 years. Even though he did not get to play in college, he has always stayed competitive, winning several State titles in the USTA and representing Louisiana at Sectionals.
  
  Craig's specialty is working with beginners. He heads up our Red Ball tennis program and assists Coach Sam with our Orange Ball group, as well. He also runs our Ladies Beginner Clinics, where after a really short period of time, he has the girls ready for match play. Call to reserve your lesson today!
Sam Mihoulides
- Sam has been a teaching pro for over 40 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has been a Head Pro and Director of some of the most prestigious clubs on the East coast -- West Hampton Athletic Club in Hamptons, NY and Bald Head Island Tennis Club in North Carolina, to name a few. It's interesting to think that Sam started playing/teaching tennis with a wooden racquet. Despite his classic strokes, which are just about perfect, he has done an amazing job of staying up-to-date with the modern game. He is a master of tailoring his lessons/clinics to his students.
  
  Sam has been here at Chateau Golf & Country Club since 2013. His specialty is introducing the game of tennis to his students, juniors and adults. His warm, inviting personality keeps everyone coming back for more. We have been lucky to have him here this last decade.
Shaikh Abdulla
- Abdulla is from Hyderabad, India, where as a junior he was #1 in the country for eight consecutive years. He achieved an ITF ranking of #115 (juniors worldwide). Abdullah also represented India in the Junior Davis Cup. At the junior level, he played some of the best tennis players in the world today, with his best win coming over Cameron Norrie (current world #15 ATP). He then brought his talents to the city of New Orleans, where he was awarded a full scholarship to Xavier University. At the collegiate level (NAIA), Abdullah was consistently in the top 10 nationally in singles and doubles. After college, he gave a brief try at professional tennis, reaching #700 in the world ATP.
  
  We are very fortunate to have Coach Abdullah here with us now. He mainly focuses on our high-level juniors, trying to prepare them for the next level of college tennis. However, his soft personality and easy demeanor make him a great teacher for beginner adults, as well. He's going to fill fast, so book your times soon!
